Seldom do I go for movies. On Saturday (29th August 09) went to Satyam (in chennai) to watch the movie Transformers. I had won a Satyam movie ticket voucher in the office for Fundoo Friday balloon blowing game, and this motivated me to go and watch a movie. Transformers was a great disappointment for me. I could not enjoy that movie for two main reasons – one is the AC fan being just on my head – kept shivering all through the movie and waited when it would end; the other being I don't like movies with animation. To compensate with this disappointment, checked if I could get tickets for Quick Gun Murugan(the chances of getting a ticket for this movie on Saturday in the last minute are very thin). I got the reply (as expected) from the person in the counter that there are no tickets. Somehow I was still near the counter and I am told that the tickets for QGM are available. Out of my excitement to buy them even before someone else could, I forgot to use the voucher which was the whole and soul reason for me to go to the theatre (yes you got it right – I did not use the voucher for Transformers as I booked the tickets online – and we can't use the voucher if we book online – I thought of using the voucher for some other ticket).
Once I got my tickets, I realized that I dint use my voucher and enquired if I could use that voucher to get my money back on the tickets which were bought few seconds earlier. I learnt that there is another counter to buy tickets through such vouchers. Knowing that I could not use the voucher unless I buy another ticket in the mentioned counter, I left the ticket counter and searched for a place where I could find something to eat. There is a place called 'noodle house' near the theatre, it looked expensive, felt I could not afford it after two weekend movie tickets (120+120). Kept strolling around the theatre and finally bought a water bottle and walked back to the theatre. There is a veg (pure veg) restaurant – idli & dosa, a pretty decent place to have tiffins - in the theatre. The bill is around Rs.130 + Rs20 tip for three items – appam and coconut milk; pesarattu upma; plain dosa. Quick service – could be because it is not so crowded. I must appreciate this place – it is worth every rupee you spend there.
Quick Gun Murugan was something which I longed to watch from the moment I saw RajendraPrasad's (actually Dr.Rajendra Prasad's) trailers in the TV. Dr.Rajendra Prasad's recent movies like me sreyobhilashi and aa naluguru are worth watching. He is king of comedy in many of the movies and won many accolades for his contributions to the industry. QGM is 1 hour 45 minutes movie and has very funny (actually crazy) scenes of the bullets going in unexpected directions before it hits the victim.
This is the first time I watched a spoof film and I enjoyed the scenes related to Rowdy MBA (yamBA). The Rowdy MBA is supposed to be a consultant for a business man Rice Plate Reddy who wants to launch a World class A1 dosa (Mc Dosa).
All I felt at the end of day, when I am walking out of the theatre, was the voucher which I won had dragged me to watch a movie (actually movies), which I wouldn't have watched otherwise – with taking a message that I should come back to the theatre again (before the expiry date which is after 6 months) if I want to make use of the voucher. In this busy life, if a person does not plan much and just goes to make use of such vouchers, they actually get into the marketing traps and end up spending more than what is planned.
